"Shlatcom"
Release date: May 19, 2021
Written by: Jos Akalina
Originally meant to be called "Red Hats and Baseball Bats", Shlatcom was nominated "the purest form of art as a function cell of the raw and the mundane". Directly inspired by Jeff Tweedy (Wilco)'s philosophy of songwriting—very complex, yea, nuanced, sure—: you just write it.
Songs are meaningless so there is no level of competence to be reached. They themselves can't have meaning. They have to be an honest reflection—raw, mundane—of what's around, of what matters. If they hold value, they are killers of creation.
The use of chopped jazz drum tracks as percussion was widely celebrated, and don't get me started on the voice—unfinished, uncompromised, inspired by things that are right.
The sound waves are concoction and the image cover is hodgepodge.
